I'm usually not one to jump on a bandwagon train. Not the best trait, but many times I'm overly cynical and analytical. But sometimes, bandwagon can be great. And this post stems from one of such times. Except you're largely out of touch with social media, or perhaps not affiliated to Nigeria in any way, only then could you have missed the #HallejujahChallenge going on social media.
Essentially, it's a live interdenominational Christian praise & worship session being held via Instagram & Facebook at 12 midnight daily for the month of June. Praise is one thing I love. I may not be able to pray for hours non-stop, but I can sing praises and hymns for hours. It lifts me out of a bad mood. The lyrics of hymns and worship songs make me feel so close to God. So I happily joined this session!
Incidentally, the first night I tuned in, was the night that the word "Olowogbogoro" as a name for God came up. It's a Yoruba phrase (and one that could be tongue twisting). But it has a great meaning. Essentially this means 'the outstretched arm/hand of God'.
In the course of the worship, we were admonished to find scriptures that reflected that name. I thought it was very insightful. I was familiar with a few bible verses that reflected the strength of God's arm, but I wanted to have something more, and to have it close by.
I personally believe imagery is such a powerful tool in our relationship with God. When we envision some of the stories or encounters in the bible, the images that come into our mind are those we often stumbled upon in our children's bible story books. And so, visualise how the arm of God is often so present in our daily life. Based on the scriptures His arm protects us, guides us, comforts us, and destroys our enemies. In whatever situation we find yourself, there's always an opening for God's arm to be revealed.
Here are 15 encouraging and inspiring scriptures that show the awesomeness of God and his arm!
~ Listen! The LORD’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call - Isaiah 59: 1
~ Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand - Isaiah 41: 10
~ Powerful is your arm. Strong is your hand. Your right hand is lifted high in glorious strength - Psalm 89:13
~ O Sovereign Lord, You made the heavens and the earth by your strong hand and powerful arms. Nothing is too hard for you - Jeremiah 32:17
~ They did not conquer the land with their swords; It was not their own strong arm that gave them victory. It was your right hand and strong arm and the blinding light from your face that helped them, for you loved them - Psalm 44:3
For the times, we are tempted to rely on our own strength and arm. Let this serve as a reminder. That it was God's right arm and strong arm that did all the work. Why? No other reason but because he loved us.
~ The strong right arm of the Lord is raised in triumph. The strong right arm of the Lord has done glorious things - Psalm 118:16
~ But Lord, be merciful to us, for we have waited for you. Be our strong arm each day and our salvation in times of trouble - Isaiah 33:2
~ His mighty arm has done tremendous things. He has scattered the proud and haughty ones - Luke 1: 51
~ He acted with a strong hand and powerful arm. His faithful love endures forever - Psalm 136: 11-12

~ Therefore, say to the people of Israel: ‘I am the LORD. I will free you from your oppression and will rescue you from your slavery in Egypt. I will redeem you with a powerful arm and great acts of judgment' - Exodus 6:6
In this last verse, the references to Israel and Egypt might make one think this is a historic verse. But we know the bible is living. So the instruction is actually to you. God's arm will free you from all oppression, and from all current shackles.
~ With my great strength and powerful arm, I made the earth and all of its people and every animal. I can give these things of mine to anyone I chose - Jeremiah 27:5
~ Then he took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them -Mark 10: 16
~ He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will carry the lambs in his arms, holding them close to his heart -Isaiah 40: 11
~ Praise the Lord; praise God our saviour. For each day he carries us in his arms - Psalm 68:19
It doesn't get any better than this. Each day. Every single day we wake up, God carries us in his arms. Loving, Shielding, Guiding, Guarding, Providing, Protecting us. How super comforting!
I hope one or more of these verses give you the re-assurance that God's got you. And his outstretched arm is always near to you.
